Put-in-Bay Fall Events
Halloween sees an end to the main tourist season at Put-in-Bay for the year and ushers in a time of quiet and respite. Many island residents, aka "snow birds", depart for places south, usually Ft. Myers in Florida. A few hardy souls remain and the school is of course open for island kids. Locals celebrate the holidays with family and when the ice comes they put out their shantys. Once the Lake Erie ice is thick enough, the big winter ice fishing season begins! People come from all over to experience the incredible ice fishing that can be found in the Lake Erie Islands. One hotel remains open year-round to accommodate the mid-winter ice fishers.
